Welcome to the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Web site
Goal
“It is
our firm belief that activities that promote friendly relations between the
U.S.A. and Japan will contribute to world peace and be of lasting benefit to
mankind.”
from the Sister City
Declaration, 1978
Stated
formally, the goal of the Sister City Program is “to foster positive
multicultural interaction and understanding among people here and abroad.”
But
in very human terms, it is a people-to-people program. It is an opportunity
through educational and cultural exchanges to know, and to appreciate the people
of another country. It is an opportunity to enjoy the richness of culture the
world has to offer, and to experience the similarities of the world’s people
as well as the differences.
The Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Program has thrived because of broad-based support. It is a community program, coordinated by the Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister City Committee, with the support of the City of Cupertino and the Cupertino Union School District.
