Midori Bonsai Club

Quinlan Community Center

The Midori Bonsai Club is one of the oldest and most vibrant bonsai club in California. The club was founded in 1961 by a small group of individuals (some with over 25 years experience) who are committed to learning both the art and science of bonsai. The word bonsai literally means, "Potted Plant". The art of bonsai is the cultivation techniques for training, shaping, watering, and repotting the miniature trees and shrubs in various styles of containers. The plants are trained in such a manner to capture and express the essence of mature trees in nature with each plant seeming to communicate a unique life story.

The club has grown over the years, but has remained true to its founding purpose. It is about educating and developing the skills of its members while having fun in the process. The club sponsors workshops conducted by Bonsai Masters, as well as study groups led by highly trained teachers for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes.

This year, our featured demonstrator for the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival is Larry White. He is a former president of Midori Bonsai Club and brings over 20 years experience in collecting, developing and refining bonsai. He concentrates on the details that produce exquisite show quality trees. You will enjoy and learn a great deal about the hands on art of bonsai during his demonstration.
